Basics of Enneagram Type 7

The Enneagram is a complex system that can guide our efforts to change the particular and repetitive aspects of how we think, feel, and act (patterns) that limit us and get in the way of achieving the results we want. While we all can identify with all of the types in one way or another, we tend to fixate or see and act in the world from one specific type.

This is a very basic guide to Type 7. Type 7 represents that part in all of us that wants the positive in life; that looks for the light and avoids the shadow; that feels attracted towards feelings like excitement or happiness. Regardless of our type, we can discover the wisdom of the journey from gluttony to sobriety that Type 7 faces every day and teaches us about.

Center of Intelligence: Head

Focus of Attention: Sevens focus on the positive, on pleasant feelings away from discomfort.

Patterns of:

Behavior: Sevens are energetic, active, and enthusiastic, and tend to have many interests and be involved in many activities. They like to plan for pleasant experiences and have options in case they need a way out of pain or discomfort.

Feeling: Sevens like to feel positive emotions and see as a waste of precious life to get trapped in fear, sadness, boredom, or pain.

Thinking: Quick thinkers who are capable of finding commonalities and make rapid mental associations.

Passion —Gluttony: this passion manifests as a desire for more, which comes from a quality of expansiveness and a desire to indulge on the fullness of life and all its pleasures.

Path to Integration: Life is made of positives and negatives. In fact, it truly is all relative. The gluttony for only the positive, the pleasure, and fun not only brings insatiability, but also removes us from the reality of life. Sobriety opens up the possibility to be present to life as it comes with the sense of safety and security that “it is ok. “
